The 2002 Mitsubishi Montero Sport is all set to wheel through rough terrains, mud, rain or snow with the added new full-time four-wheel-drive mode. Five level trims are offered for this year model: Mitsubishi Montero Sport ES, LS, XLS and Limited. All comes with an option of a two-wheel or four-wheel drive. A 3L V6 165-horsepower engine provides power for the first three trims while 3.5 L V6 engine produces 197-horsepower for the Limited trim. The Mitsubishi Montero Sport Limited also comes with four-wheel-disc brakes and ABS. Also featured in this model are limited-slip rear differential, Infinity stereo, tilt-and-slide one-touch power moonroof, LCD computer, leather upholstery, heated front seats and rear heater controls. The XLS sport color-keyed fender flares and stylish interior and exterior. It also features a security system.

Available for this year is a Luxury Package that shows off an elegant-looking leather seats, 210-watt Infinity audio system and one-touch power sunroof. The Limited model has light and dark-toned upholstery, which gives the Montero Sport a pleasant and high-class look. Front seats hold the driver firmly and can be easily adjusted. Also notable in this model's interior is a straightforward instrument panel with easy to read gauges. For this year, a new look is achieved with the wood-like surfaces surrounding the instruments and window switches.
